Music and Me
My name is Victoria Little. I am a sophomore majoring in
Child and Family Studies with a concentration in Advocacy. I currently work as
a teacher's assistant for special education. I have worked with young children
since I was about thirteen years old, for almost ten years. I love being able
to teach them and help them learn. I want to be able to protect children and
make sure their needs are met. I love both general education and special education
has taken a special space in my heart.
I have grown up in Woodruff South Carolina my entire life. I have traveled to Florida throughout my life. I have a bunch of family in Florida, so Florida is like a second home to me. I have been through all parts of Florida. I have even been to the Everglades. I love to travel, especially to warm tropical-like places. My favorite place I have ever visited is probably Bimini Bahamas. It is breathtaking, and it is so blue. I also have a Shih Tzu whose name is Milo.
- I spend a lot of time driving in my car. I am always looking for encouraging songs and songs that can pump me up in the car. The song I have been listening to lately that has pumped me up is a song from Brandon Lake called That’s Who I Praise. I have been listening to this song for months now. What I love most about this song is it takes people out of the bible and talks about them. For example, He talks about how he wants to face the fire and knows that God’s got his back like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These three men were thrown into a fiery furnace but did not get burned. It is cool because he makes references like this during the whole song. It is cool how he can take multiple people and their stories and add them into a song.
2. One song that is personally meaningful to me is You Are My Sunshine. I really prefer my mom singing it to me over any other version but I am not going to have you listen to my mom's voice singing it. This song has so much meaning that I actually have it tattooed on my arm. My mother has sung this to me since I was a little kid. She sang it to me when I was sick when I was sad, and even when I was in the emergency room. This is meaningful to me because it is a part of my childhood, and it has always comforted me when I needed it the most. Also, I am very close to my mom, she is my favorite human and best friend. I do not know what I would do without her.

3. One song that I do not connect with or fully
like is Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. This song creeps me out. It makes me
feel extremely uncomfortable. I do not understand many parts of this song. The Beatles
wrote this song in 1966. They wrote this song as a children’s song. This song
to me is a little weird to be a children’s song in my personal opinion. Also,
the Beatles were on an LSD trip when writing this song, which to me also
screams not a children’s song.

Hi Victoria! I've only ever heard 'You are my sunshine" before, but I did take a listen to your other songs; I personally don't think I'd really listen to any of them, but I did like "That's Who I Praise" and would definitely play it in the car for Church lol. Totally agree with you on the Beatles...some songs give off the weirdest vibes and are no-go's. And "You Are My Sunshine" is def a classic, I don't really like it and it makes me queezy
ReplyDeleteI really liked your inclusion of "You are My Sunshine" because that is a song my mom would sing to me too. I like how you still prefer your mom's version over anything you could find online because that's probably how it should be. I found "That's Who I Praise" interesting because it was neat to see allusions to all these different biblical figures in ways that made sense in context, like you said. It never felt forced at any point, which is impressive.
ReplyDeleteHello Victoria, I love "You Are My Sunshine" It is one song that basically plays in my mind at all times it is just so beautiful. I also love that you included your mom's version in your blog because no matter who sings it, it will never be like your mom's, and I love that it is special for you.
ReplyDeletehii. I also enjoy the song "you are my sunshine". my grandmother sang this to me every night after my dads wreck and it also has deep meaning to me. Having the tattoo dedicated to this song and your moment has such a beautiful meaning.
